Preventing Edge Chipping on Brittle Materials

Standard abrasives struggle with ceramics, glass, and stone, often causing chipping or requiring excessive force. Diamond sanding sponge utilizes diamond grain (P60 to P400) embedded in a flexible sponge matrix. The diamond abrasive cuts through hard materials efficiently, while the sponge body absorbs impact and conforms to curves. This combination helps prevent the edge chipping that occurs when using rigid grinding stones on brittle surfaces.

Working Hard Substrates

Tile installers use the P60–P120 grade to shape and trim ceramic edges, then switch to P180–P400 for chamfering and smoothing. Glass fabricators use it for refining edges after grinding. Stone countertop installers use the sponge for local edge repairs. It is also used for reconditioning hard alloy cutting tools and detailing jewelry.

03

Wet Grinding Requirement

For diamond abrasives, wet grinding is highly recommended. Water reduces the friction heat generated during cutting, which is critical for preventing thermal shock on glass and ceramics. The water also flushes away the fine slurry, keeping the diamond grains exposed for continuous cutting.

Factory Direct Supply

Dongguan Sansha Abrasives Co., Ltd. supplies diamond sponges tailored to specific material hardness. Because diamond grain represents a higher material cost, the production batch size and pricing are negotiated based on the specific order. Small test orders can be dispatched in three days; bulk volume takes about one week. Transactions are finalized with a 50% advance deposit, and the balance is paid after pre-shipment inspection.

FAQ

Q: Can I use this sponge dry on glass?

A: Wet grinding is highly recommended to prevent overheating and thermal shock, which can crack the glass.

Q: What grit is used for chamfering a tile edge?

A: P60–P120 works for initial shaping, while P180–P400 is used for final chamfering and smoothing.
