Heat Control and Hard Material Finishing

Silicon carbide is a hard, sharp abrasive, making it highly effective for materials that are sensitive to heat or prone to scratching. Silicon carbide sponge utilizes this grain on a flexible sponge body, available from P80 to P2000. When used for wet sanding, water acts as a lubricant and coolant. This limits heat buildup on clear coats, acrylics, and composites, and washes away fine debris that would otherwise clog the abrasive face.

02

Targeted Substrates

The sponge excels on automotive clear coats (leveling orange peel), stainless steel and aluminum (preparing for mirror polish), glass edges (refining after grinding), and transparent acrylics (scratch removal). For wood coatings, it levels dust nibs and orange peel between layers. The grit range is typically divided into P80–P240 for initial refinement, P320–P800 for intermediate smoothing, and P1000–P2000 for final preparation.

03

Flexible Contact

The sponge backing conforms to curved edges and contours, allowing wet sanding on complex shapes without cutting through thin films. It is commonly used by automotive detailers, glass fabricators, and metal polishers.

Wet-Grade Sampling

Dongguan Sansha Abrasives Co., Ltd. supplies these sponges in staged grit sets covering the full wet-sanding sequence. Because performance depends on the substrate (glass vs. paint), the sample is verified against the customer's actual surface before manufacturing begins. Bulk orders follow the sample standard. Small quantities ship in three days, larger ones in about a week. The terms require a 50% deposit, with the balance settled after inspection.

FAQ

Q: What is the main advantage of silicon carbide over aluminum oxide here?

A: Silicon carbide is harder and sharper, making it better suited for glass, metal, and automotive clear coats.

Q: Can it be used on glass edges?

A: Yes, it is recommended for wet sanding glass edges. Start around P240–P400 and progress finer.
